The Centre for the Study of Mongol Art is pleased to announce the launch of the CSMA 2026 Lecture Series, part of our ongoing mission to make research on Mongol art and visual sources more accessible to the public.

On 12 March 2026, the Centre for the Study of Mongol Art successfully hosted its first in-person public lecture, featuring guest speaker Dr. Natsagdorj Battsengel. In his lecture, “Revealing the History of Mongolia from Photographs,” Dr. Battsengel presented his research on historical photographs from the nineteenth to the early twentieth century, including materials from the M.A. Polumordvinov collection. He also addressed timely issues surrounding the study and interpretation of historical photographs in the age of AI and social media.
Dr. Battsengel specialises in the history and ethnography of Mongolia and Mongol people during the Qing period. He currently serves as Head of the Source Studies and Documentation Department at the Institute of History and Ethnology, Mongolian Academy of Sciences.
The Centre for the Study of Mongol Art extends its sincere gratitude to the D. Natsagdorj Ulaanbaatar City Public Library for supporting our lecture series.
